Official Finalists in the 2017 Hollywood Songwriting Contest

Happy to announce that I’ve been recognized for the first time as a Lyricist. Two of my new songs have been selected as finalists for the Hollywood Songwriting Contest (Lyrics Only category). Both songs are based on historical events, but are a little graphic and not the most conventionally formulaic 😉
Click on the links below to read either song.

The first song ‘Ohio, 1930’ is told from the perspective of a fictional character, but is based on an actual event which happened at the Ohio State Penitentiary on April 21, 1930; a prison fire which resulted in the death of 322 inmates. It was the deadliest prison fire in United States history.

The second song titled ‘Freedom Summer’ is based on actual events which happened in the state of Mississippi in the summer of 1964. It details the backlash of a volunteer campaign in the United States to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible.
